August 2023, summer is still in full effect. However, back to school has already started for some. While some are still planning their end-of-summer vaca, others are preparing for back to school. This time is usually an exciting time of year for the kids. However, it can be a stressful transition as students and parents try to get organized for the start of a new school year.
The purpose of this blog post is to cover tips and tricks on how to get ready for the upcoming school year and help make the transition smoother.
Set Goals for Back to School
Start today to set goals for this school year; whether your child is starting pre-K or their first year of college, set goals for yourself and your child. Setting goals for back to school can provide a sense of purpose and direction, helping you stay motivated and focused throughout the year. Please write down your goals and break them down into smaller, achievable steps. Doing this will make them more manageable and allow you to track your progress.
Keep your goals visible. Create a goal poster and hang it in your room or somewhere it’s visible. You want it to be a constant reminder of what you’re working towards. Remember, it’s okay if your goals change throughout the year. The most important thing is to have a clear vision of what you want to accomplish, stay motivated, and set goals to stay on task.
Get Organized with a Planner
A planner is one of the most effective ways to stay organized during the school year. A planner can help you keep track of important dates, assignments, and deadlines, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks. When choosing a planner, consider what works best for you. I prefer the digital option, the planner I can access with my phone or tablet. Some prefer a physical planner, where they can write things down by hand in a notebook. Whichever planner you choose, remember it is only effective if you use it, so make it a habit to check it regularly and stay organized throughout the school year.
Back to School Supplies
Buying school supplies for elementary school children can be very hectic when waiting until the last few days before school starts to purchase them. Check your child’s school website to get the list of school supplies required. Then start shopping well in advance, picking up a few items on the list throughout the summer. Shopping for school supplies early prevents stress and saves money because you will have time to shop for the best price and possibly find items on sale when they aren’t in high demand.
Focus on Nutrition and Exercise
I firmly believe that all good things evolve around nutrition and exercise. Now that your goals, planner, and supplies are ready, it’s time to focus on another important aspect of back to school: nutrition and exercise. Taking care of your physical well-being is essential for staying focused and energized throughout the school year.
Regarding nutrition, aim for a balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. Avoid relying on sugary snacks or fast food for quick energy, as these can lead to crashes and lack of focus. Instead, pack healthy snacks like nuts, yogurt, or sliced fruits to keep you fueled throughout the day. Also, make sure to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Exercise is not only important for physical health but also for mental well-being. Find an activity you enjoy, whether playing a sport (tennis), taking dance classes, or jogging in the park. Regular exercise can boost your mood, reduce stress, and improve concentration.
Make nutrition and exercise a priority as part of your daily routine. Incorporating healthy habits into your lifestyle will contribute to your overall success and happiness during the school year.
I am sure the above tips will assist you and your child(ren) be better prepared for the 2023/2024 school year.
