Saving Money by Fasting
Saving money is a goal of mine for this year and I plan to accomplish that by fasting. We fast for our spiritual health and our physical health. So I thought, I would fast for my financial health. Therefore, I am going on a 60 day shopping fast! Starting January 1st through February 28th, This is a step towards improving my financial health.
Retirement
I retired in 2013 and have lived within a budget. I am able to pay my bills (on time), go on vacations, go out to eat, go to the spa for pampering, and shop all because I have a few side hustles. As long as I don’t spend more than I earn from the side hustles, I am able to stay with my budget. I occasionally find myself in a financial bind due to not planning for the unexpected major home repair or major car repair.
The Plan for Saving Money
Research has shown that it can take anywhere from 18 days to 254 days to form a habit. So I will start with 60 days. During the fast, I will not:
- eat take out
- have fast food home delivery
- get manicures or pedicures
- get my hair done
- order amazon or place any other online retail orders
I will keep a journal and document the amount of money earned and the amount of money saved. I am hoping keeping a journal will keep me accountable. If there is a slip-up, it will be documented. At the end of the 60 days fast, I will evaluate my accomplishments. Taking control of my spending and saving money is a step closer to improving my financial health and achieving (FI) financial independence.
