Preventing cognitive decline and reversing current symptoms of cognitive decline are important   The Journal of Alzheimers and Dementia makes a connection between cognitive decline and dietary choices.  To help ourselves and our aging parents, we will outline the parameters of  the Mind Diet.  The Mind Diet is a merging of the Mediterranean Diet and the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) Diet.

There are 10 Food Group to the MIND Diet:

  1. Whole grains (3) daily
  2. Fish (1) weekly
  3. Poultry (2) weekly 
  4. Olive Oil
  5. Wine
  6. Green leafy veggies (6) weekly
  7. Other veggies
  8. Nuts
  9. Berries (2)
  10. Beans (4)

UNHEALTHY FOODS

1. Fried or fast foods

2. Red meats

3. Butter/Margarine

4.  Cheese

5. Pastries/sweets.

So, let’s begin by making meal plans within these parameters and see how we nourish our minds.
